Leonardo Muzii , conductor

Leonardo Muzii was born in 1965 in Bethesda, Md., U.S.A. and grew up in Naples, Italy where he completed high school. During his school years he studied Cello at the Conservatorio S.Pietro Majella in Naples and started to study recorder privately. He obtained the Soloist diploma in Recorder at the Rotterdam Conservatorium Hollandand associateship of the Royal College of Music London. Through a scholarship from the Dutch Government he could continue his study of performance practice of early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. He won the Yamaha wind instrument contest in Utrecht and the "van Wassenaer" chamber music competition in Amsterdam, Holland, and the "Bourse aux jeunes interptetes of the Swiss Radio DRS in Geneva. He was finalist of the International recorder competition in Calw. Conducting degree at the Musik Hochschule Lucerne and masterclassas with Bernard Haitink, Jonathan Nott and Jorma Panula.

Since 2000 Leonardo Muzii is the conductor of the Interlaken Orchester Verein. He has moreover been invited to conduct the orchestras Conservatoire della Svizzera Italiana, Junge Philharmonie Zentral Schweiz, Orchestra da camera del Gonfalone Rome, Conservatoire Neuchatel, Sinfonietta del Teatro di Cagliari, Ostboehmische Philharmonie, Mozart-Fest Wuerzburg, Camerata Variabile Basel, Musik in der Pforte Feldkirch, State Orchestra of St. Petersburg. Furthermore he conducted a world premiere of "Euidice", a short opera BY THE Sardinian composer Giorgio Tedde and collaborated with Sofia Gubaidulina in the exexution of her compositions for cello ensembles and aquaphones. Leonardo Muzii collaborates with soloists among which Hansheinz Schneeberger, Alfredo Persichilli, Omar Zoboli, Maria Christina Kiehr, Sergio Azzolini.
